Monthly Wrap: New Year, new life – Reasons to emigrate in 2019

Currencies Direct December 7th 2018 - 2 minute read

As we enter the last few weeks of 2018 it’s time to start thinking about the year ahead.
New years are traditionally a time for new starts – from big transitions (like changing jobs) to little changes (like giving up sugar in your tea).

Moving is possibly one of the most life-altering steps you could take this New Year, with a move overseas being an even bigger shift.

If the thought of a move abroad intrigues you, check out our reasons to emigrate in 2019.

Opportunities for travel

If you’re feeling stuck in a rut and want to shake up your routine, moving abroad could be just the change you need.

Let’s take Spain, for example, which is uniquely positioned between Europe and Africa and famed for its blue skies, warm climate, and rich culture.

A move to Spain enables easy access to the rest of Europe and opens the door to some of the continents’ most culturally-diverse and unique cities.

Studies have shown that traveling provides a generative zest for life, even aiding in longevity, so if you want to embrace a lifestyle of travel and adventure, a move abroad creates endless possibilities.

New sources of inspiration

Familiarity is comforting, but it can also become dull.

Breaking away from what you know and throwing yourself into something completely new (while scary) can be hugely inspiring and push you to do things you never considered.

  • Do you have an unwritten novel that has been lying dormant?
  • Do you want to begin a new business venture?
  • Ever wanted to learn a foreign language?

With new sources of inspiration, what once felt impossible may suddenly feel achievable.

Healthy horizons

Many European countries – including Sweden, Spain, Italy and Southern France – are known for their healthy diets.

A move to any of these nations could see you swap your normal diet for healthier regional offerings, like pastas, fresh salads, local seafood, olive oil and local fruit.

Transitioning abroad might also encourage you to move more.

Humans are inquisitive creatures and once we’re in a new environment we’re always keen to explore. With the beautiful landscapes of the coastal regions of the Mediterranean, to the labyrinthine of great cities (Paris, Barcelona, Vienna or Berlin, for example) you’ll have plenty of reasons to get your steps up – your Fitbit won’t know what hit it!
There are many more reasons why you might want to make a move abroad, but if you’re feeling ready for a change and looking for new adventures, 2019 could be the year to finally take the leap!
