Like many who are looking to make their escape to Europe, you may be entertaining the possibility of relocating to Cyprus – known as the ‘Jewel of the Med’.
However like many you may be having come difficult when it comes to narrowing down exactly where you should settle on this Mediterranean paradise.
To help you make this herculean decision we present the five most popular locations for British expats living in Cyprus.
Limassol
Limassol is the second largest city in Cyprus after the Capital, Nicosia, and was recently voted by users of TripAdvisor as one of the most up-and-coming destinations in the world.
Limassol has also experienced a bit of a tourism boom in recent years which has seen the city rapidly expand to include a €350 million development of luxury properties that are due to be finished next year.
However this doesn’t mean that it has lost any of its traditional charm, with the cobbled streets of its old town or the Folk Art museum there are plenty of places in which to immerse yourself in the city’s ancient heritage.
Paphos
A thriving British expat community with a wealth of spectacular coastal properties makes Paphos one of the most popular destination for Brits looking to live in Cyprus.
Many expats are drawn to the city for its excellent food and relish the opportunity to enjoy the many restaurants and cafes around the marina.
The proximity to Cyprus’ second largest international airport, with the availability of year-round budget flights, makes Paphos an appealing choice for anyone wishing to explore the rest of Europe,
The city has also benefited from being granted the status as a European Capital of Culture in 2017, with over €25 million being spent to ensure the city lives up to its reputation.
Larnaca
If you’re looking for somewhere which splices the contemporary hustle of a modern city and the historic lineage of the island, then look no further than the port town of Larnaca.
Built upon the ruins of ancient Citium, many parts of which can still be found standing scattered throughout the city, Larnaca offers the amateur historian plenty to get excited about.
However this isn’t to say the town is stuck in the past as the city’s international airport has brought an influx of investment, allowing Larnaca to keep up with the times.
Just take a stroll down the town’s beautiful palm-lined promenade or visit its quaint cafes and you will soon see why British expats have fallen in love with this traditional slice of Cyprus
Peyia
Located a just north of Paphos, Peyia has become increasingly popular amongst Brits who are attracted by its traditional whitewashed houses and beautiful beaches.
Driving into the town it is easy to see what prompts Brits to flock to the area as it hillside locations offers breath-taking views over the sparkling Coral Bay.
A blue flag sandy beach also offers the perfect location to bask in the sun while the region’s four championship golf courses mean that golf fans are also well catered for.
Despite this, Peyia hasn’t lost any of its appeal as a quaint coastal town, making it perfect for those who enjoy a slower pace of life.
Nicosia
Last but not least is the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia. With its vibrant blend of both European and Middle Eastern culture, it’s easy to see why it attracts an ever-increasing number of British expats each year.
Of course it helps that the city’s subtropical climate during the summer and mild winters are a godsend for Brits who are sick of the weather back home!
As a major international business centre, Nicosia includes all the modern conveniences of any major European city, but without ever losing any of magic that runs through the old city.
Luckily Nicosia also offers a fairly reasonable cost of living for a European capital, allowing you to live a metropolitan lifestyle without worrying about breaking the bank.
Of course if you are moving away from the UK partly to get away from the rest of us then you may look to instead avoid these locations.
Thankfully there are many other hidden gems scattered throughout the island that are begging to be discovered, you just need to know where to look.
