CD South Africa: Ready, steady… go!

Currencies Direct February 24th 2015 - < 1 minute read

Good morning everybody. The line-up for the day is as follows:

  • South African gross domestic product numbers are released at 11:30
  • the Eurozone's Consumer Price Index is published at 12:00
  • European Central Bank President Mario Draghi speaks at 16:00
  • US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen gives a speech at 17:00.

The rand lost ground against the majors yesterday as markets traded cautiously in the build-up to this week's festivities. South Africa's 2014 fourth quarter gross domestic product is expected to come in at 3.7%, with anything lower likely to have a negative effect on the rand. Expect volatility to spike in the next few days… if you're not up for the risk, you may want to book your transfers in this morning. Have a great day!
