Spring Fair International: One-stop-shop for e-tailers selling internationally

Where the retail industry comes to do business…

Spring Fair International, the biggest gathering of retailers in the UK, is the most important buying event on any retailer’s calendar. Held from 1 to 5 February in the NEC Birmingham, Spring Fair is especially looked forward to by independent retailers, who make up about 40.9% of all the fair's visitors.

As an exhibitor, this is the ultimate opportunity to showcase current ranges, launch new products and meet current and prospective customers.

Spring Fair International 2015 in detail:
  • Birmingham NEC
  • 1 – 5 February 2015
  • 40% of visitors are independent retailers
  • Dedicated sessions for online retailers
As a visitor to Spring Fair you'll be joining the 70,000 other retailers from the UK and overseas in sourcing new ranges and taking the opportunity to network with industry colleagues.

As an exhibitor, this is the ultimate opportunity to showcase current ranges, launch new products and meet current and prospective customers.

International opportunities

Attendance at Spring Fair is essential if you're a UK-based retailer looking to source or sell internationally – as well as being a low-cost, high opportunity launch pad for overseas suppliers moving into the UK.

Spring Fair International 2015 scope:
  • 3,000 British and international suppliers
  • More than 300,000 new products
  • 14 different market sectors
  • Access to 70,000 retail buyers from UK and overseas

Higher profile for online retailing

The ever-increasing importance of online retailing will be recognised this year with a new exhibition sector – Retail Shop, reflecting the rapid expansion of multi-channel shopping. Retail Shop incorporates some of the many products and services essential to successful multi-channel e-tailing, such as digital marketing and social media services, ecommerce platforms, web analytics and SEO, logistics and fulfilment services, payment providers and many others. Parallel seminar sessions will provide insights into how to drive traffic to your business or grow your cross-border trade.
  • 94 million cross-border shoppers across the six surveyed markets
  • $105 billion estimated total spend (2013)
  • 130 million online shoppers expected by 2018
  • $307 billion estimated total spend by 2018

Cross-border trade opportunities

In 2013 PayPal commissioned The Nielsen Company to conduct a survey of cross-border online shoppers across six key markets: the USA, UK, Germany, Brazil, China and Australia.[1] In these markets alone, the opportunities are impressive.

UK-based e-tailers looking to sell in overseas markets can use Spring Fair International to meet on-site specialists able to provide the guidance they need on how to get started with cross-border selling, or how to make current international activities more profitable.

Online marketplaces

For many e-tailers, the online marketplace represents the easiest and lower risk option for taking the first international step. Through marketplaces businesses can sell their products to other countries, reaching out to thousands of new buyers.

What happens to 3-4% of your international sales revenue?

If you're selling overseas through online marketplaces, there is a further crucial element which can make the difference between a profitable or loss-making cross-border experience; these are hidden currency conversion fees.

You can lose up to 4% of your sales turnover in foreign exchange conversions if you're using international marketplaces such as Amazon, generating sales in foreign currency and then relying on that marketplace to convert your profits into your home currency for you.

While online marketplaces are well practised at listing your products in front of the right customers, they may not be as effective when it comes to managing currency. You need an equally strong partner in foreign exchange to ensure your money is available in the right place, in the right currency, at the right time.

Our e-tailer Collection Account provides online retailers like you with an overseas bank account that's located in the market and denominated in the currency you sell in. (You can have more than one account if you need to!) It enables you to collect money without converting it into your home currency.

Visit our stand at Spring Fair (4A44, Hall 3) and meet our friendly foreign exchange experts, who'll be available to talk about your foreign exchange requirements and give you some insights into the impact currency conversions can have on your international e-tailing business.
