Monthly Wrap: Five reasons to move to Canada

currency-newsMonthly Wrap: Five reasons to move to Canada
According to the 2019 Best Countries Report, Canada comes out on top when it comes to quality of life.

The nation has taken the number one spot in this index for four years now thanks to high scores in areas like healthcare, public education, employment and safety.

If you haven’t considered Canada as an emigration destination before, here are five reasons why you should…

1.Welcoming locals

Canada is renowned for being welcoming to newcomers. Nearly 23% of the Canadian population is made up of foreign nationals, and this figure is expected to reach nearly 50% by 2031.

There are currently over 70 different immigration options on offer across the various provinces and territories of Canada.

Sponsorship programmes have also increased, with options such as the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship programme making it easier to move abroad with your family.

2.Job opportunities

Canada has a growing elderly population, and with an increasing number of people hitting retirement age each year, there are employment gaps that need to be filled.

The nation also has a robust economy with many attractive employment opportunities. Workers with healthcare, IT and engineering qualifications are particularly sought after.

One way that Canadian visas differ from many other countries is that in some cases you can enter the country without securing a job for yourself first, giving you the opportunity to seek employment once you arrive.

Another great reason to move to Canada is that it is one of the safest countries to live in.

Ranked at number seven on a list of the safest and most dangerous countries, this puts Canada 28 places above the United Kingdom.

Canada is also ranked at number six on the Global Index of Peace, again, far ahead of the UK which ranks at number 57.

4.Equality in education

If you’re planning to move abroad with children, the Canadian education system has a lot to recommend it.

It doesn’t matter where you choose to live in Canada, as a resident your children will be able to access free public education from the age of five to around 19 depending on your province or territory.

Canada boasts a common commitment to an equal chance in school.

The strong sense of fairness and equal access is the secret weapon that Canada has been using to overtake so many countries in education rankings.

The country has a high proportion of migrants in its school population, as more than a third of young adults in Canada are from families where both parents are originally from another country.

Studies have also shown that the children of newly-arrived, migrant families integrate rapidly and soon perform at the same high level as their Canadian-born classmates.

5.Canada wants citizens

Another great thing about Canada is that it’s a country that wants citizens, rather than temporary workers.

The C6 Bill that was introduced in 2017 has made applying for citizenship in Canada even easier for those who want to put down roots.

One of the changes that was made was that to qualify you no longer need to reside in Canada for four out of six years.

Now applicants must be physically present in Canada for three out of five years before they can apply for citizenship.

If you’re between the ages of 18 and 54 (previously 14 and 64) you will be required to pass a citizenship test. But don’t worry if you fail to pass the first time, you can apply to take the test twice more.
