A little bit about us and our history

Since its formation in 1996, Currencies Direct has seen dynamic growth based on a determination to overcome boundaries and provide value and innovation in the foreign exchange arena.

Our mission is to make peoples/business' lives easier by making the flow of money around the world simpler, and more direct. That’s what let's talk currency is all about.

With Head quarters in the City of London (United Kingdom) and with operations in Europe, Africa, Asia and the United States, Currencies Direct is part of the Azibo Group, a privately owned investment company.

Currencies Direct over the years

1996 – we founded Currencies Direct

1999 – we opened the first of our six mainland European offices in Torrevieja, Spain

2004 – we opened our office in Cape Town, South Africa

2005 – we expanded our operations and opened our office in Mumbai

2005 – we made it onto the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 list

2007 – we opened our office in Georgia, USA

2006 – we were finalists in the National Business Awards

2007 – we were finalists in the Fast Growth Business Awards

2008 – we launched our online money transfer service

2009 – the Financial Conduct Authority authorised us to provide payment services

2010 – we achieved the highest possible credit rating, level 1, with Dun & Bradstreet

2011 – our number of global offices increased to 12, with new premises in the Algarve, Portugal and Manchester, UK

2012 – we agreed on a partnership with national banks in Spain, making opening accounts there even easier

2012 – we appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers as our auditors

2012 – we committed substantial funds to renew our IT infrastructure and core systems, with a new suite of online and mobile products to be launched in 2014

2013 – our new telephone and customer relationship management systems went live, enhancing our customer service

2013 – we launched our Multipay and e-tailers services to business clients

2013 – our employee numbers exceeded 250

2013 – we received permission from the FCA to launch Currency Options

2013 – we expanded our operations to Scandanavia, Malta, Ireland and Florida

2014 – we launched our new brand (big smiles all round)

Dun and Bradstreet Currencies Direct receives a level 1 credit score from Dun and Bradstreet- ‘Highest level of creditworthiness and minimum risk of failure.’

2009

Financial Services Authority (FSA) Currencies Direct becomes Authorised and Regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) for the provision of payment services
   
Launch of FX4charity at the House of Lords Launch of FX4charity at the House of Lords, to enable charities to benefit from raising donations at the back of foreign exchange transactions.

2008

I-Payfx, the online payment platform for Currencies Direct. Currencies Direct launches I-Payfx, its global online payment platform for businesses and consumers.

2007

Fast Growth Business Awards Currencies Direct short listed for service business of the year at the Fast Growth Business Awards
Management Today name Mayank Patel Management today name Mayank Patel at number 22 in their ranking of Britain's most successful entrepreneurs.

2006

Mayank Patel elected as a fellow of the royal society for the encouragement of arts, manufacture & commerce (RSA)
Currencies Direct short listed for business of the year at the National Business Awards
Management today name Mayank Patel as one of their top 100 entrepreneurs.

2005

Currencies Direct ranked as one of UK's hottest companies in the 2005 Sunday Times Fast Track 100.

2004
 

Chairman Mayank Patel awarded entrepreneur of the year at the London business awards, organised by the London chamber of commerce.
The Financial Mail on Sunday finds Currencies Direct to be the best foreign exchange rate provider in a survey into the cost of transferring £100,000 into euros.
Currencies Direct short listed for service company of the year at the Passport to Export awards run by UK trade & investment.
Currencies Direct proudly co-hosted a business seminar at which former US President Bill Clinton delivered the keynote address.
Chairman Mayank Patel awarded prestigious NRI excellence award in India by IK Gurjal, the former Prime Minister of India.
